This round's annotated game featured: Brian Cappelletto vs. Jerry Lerman. Round 6 Div 1 director, Bryan Pepper, stops by and whispers, "Dave Wiegand (Portland, OR) opened with a natural TAXIMAN in his game with Joe Edley (Coram, NY)." I stopped by later and saw that in addition to the first bingo mentioned, Dave also played TRASHMEN (has he been studying is MAN/MEN lists or what?). Other Dave plays, MOJO and kYAK (a 2 K word!). Joe played RANDIES for 71 and edITION for 66. 492-359, Dave's win. Rose Kreiswirth (East Northport, NY) lost a game to John Luebkemann (Bear, DE) this round, but she had three bingos AND a triple-triple! Her plays: OUTLINER for 64, ENATIONs for 72, SOLVING for 77, and INCUMBER thorugh the M for 176. John's plays: MISGRADE for 98, PsHAWED for 105, AEROSOL for 93, and FATIDIC for 79. John's win, 580-525. This is an 1105-point combined total and at table 40 in the division to boot! Passersby kept commenting on John's FATIDIC and before long there was a positive throng around their half of the table. Tony Leah (Ajax ON) vs. Lester Schonbrun (Oakland, CA). Tony's RAGTIME and RETINES and Lester's ARILLOID and GODETIA. Lester's win, 452-393. Seth Lipkin (Hopkinton, MA) vs. Jeff Clark (Linden, MI). Seth plays SHEQUEL for 36, VIZARDS through the I for 60, and DILATER for 82. Holding EIICDT?, Jeff played RaTICIDES from the R to the S for 69 and he got down PROSiNG for 79. Perhaps the 167-point triple-triple WEDDINGs through the second D is what won it for Seth, 442-351. Jim Kramer (Roseville, MN) played Zev Kaufman (Toronto ON) this round. Holding AAATHY?, Jim played ATHAnASY through the S, which drew a challenge from Zev. Jim also played FLOSSIER for 63 and HAIRNET for 84. I think these three were one after another. He later got down LOGICiSE for 89. Zev played UTILISED through the S for 60 and had SPITTLED* challenged off. It was Jim's win, 592-305. |
